I am a college professor increasingly frustrated by the incredible debt I see my students taking on.
Rather than spending their time learning how to creatively solve the problems of the future, their debt forces them to think of education narrowly in terms of “what they can do with it after they graduate.”
Education was once considered a public good and not a private investment.
Education was once considered to be for the 99%.

New York Times: Video Site Vimeo Uses HTML5 to Get More iPhone Friendly
“Video sharing site Vimeo says it’s going to be the latest video company using the new HTML5 format as its path onto mobile devices. The site plans to release a “Universal Player” later today that will detect your smartphone browser and determine what video format it will support. So it might play in HTML5 on an iPhone or iPad, but play in Flash on an Android phone…”

More than fifty thousand time-lapse videos have been posted to Vimeo, the online art house to YouTube’s multiplex, and many of them are beautiful. But on Tuesday evening, Josh Owens posted one that struck us as more ambitious and impressive than most. Maybe it’s because much of it was shot from hotel windows in Times Square, where we have our offices: at ground level, in real time, it can be a dispiriting neighborhood, but Owens reminded us that it’s also a glorious one, at least when it’s sped up around seven hundred and twenty times. (The interval between frames as Owens shot them was anywhere from five seconds to a full minute.)
